Position Overview: As a Diesel Heavy Equipment Mechanic, you will be responsible for diagnosing, repairing, and maintaining diesel-powered heavy equipment used in construction, agriculture, and other industries. You will work with a variety of machinery, including bulldozers, excavators, cranes, loaders, and more, ensuring they operate efficiently and safely.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Diagnosis and Repair: Conduct thorough inspections to identify mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic issues in diesel heavy equipment. Utilize diagnostic tools and manuals to pinpoint problems accurately. Perform repairs and replacements of faulty parts, including engines, transmissions, brakes, and hydraulic systems.

  2. Preventive Maintenance: Develop and implement maintenance schedules to prevent breakdowns and extend the lifespan of equipment. Perform routine maintenance tasks such as oil changes, filter replacements, lubrication, and fluid checks. Inspect and adjust systems to meet manufacturer specifications.

  3. Troubleshooting: Respond promptly to equipment breakdowns and malfunctions, troubleshooting issues to determine root causes. Analyze symptoms, run diagnostic tests, and propose effective solutions to restore functionality and minimize downtime.

  4. Documentation: Maintain detailed records of all maintenance and repair activities, including work performed, parts used, and hours spent on each task. Keep accurate logs of equipment history, service intervals, and warranty information.

  5. Safety Compliance: Adhere to safety protocols and regulations while working on heavy equipment. Ensure all repairs and maintenance tasks are conducted in accordance with industry standards and company policies to promote a safe working environment for yourself and others.

  6. Training and Support: Provide guidance and training to junior mechanics or apprentices, sharing knowledge and best practices in diesel heavy equipment maintenance and repair techniques.

  7. Parts Management: Coordinate with suppliers to procure necessary parts and materials for repairs and maintenance. Maintain inventory levels and ensure proper storage and organization of spare parts and components.

Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or equivalent; completion of a vocational or technical training program in diesel mechanics is preferred.
  • Proven experience as a diesel mechanic, particularly with heavy equipment such as bulldozers, excavators, loaders, etc.
  • Strong mechanical aptitude and troubleshooting skills.
  • Proficiency in using diagnostic tools and equipment.
  • Knowledge of diesel engine systems, hydraulic systems, and electrical systems.
  • Familiarity with safety protocols and regulations related to heavy equipment operations.
  • Excellent attention to detail and organizational skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced environment.
  • Valid driver's license and clean driving record may be required.
