The University of Miami has a great opportunity for a Senior Finance Manager to work at the Coral Gables Campus.

CORE JOB SUMMARY

The Senior Finance Manager reports to the Director of Financial Planning and Analysis and plays a critical role in the strategic financial planning of the university. This position is responsible for leading and managing essential financial activities, including forecasting, budgeting, and strategic planning, with the goal of optimizing profitability and cash flow management. Key responsibilities include developing and maintaining comprehensive financial models, conducting in-depth variance analysis, and preparing detailed financial reports for senior leadership. The Senior Finance Manager ensures the accuracy and integrity of financial data, providing actionable insights to support informed decision-making. Further, the Senior Finance Manager assists the Director in overseeing departmental staff ensuring compliance with regulations and policies.

CORE JOB FUNCTIONS

Develop and deliver precise monthly financial forecasts to senior leadership, ensuring clarity and actionability. Prepare and update regularly long-range financial projections for each major business activity of the University. Support team efforts to help better understand the University’s revenue streams and cost structure with the objective of providing senior management with the early identification of both financial threats and opportunities Build and maintain comprehensive financial models that incorporate current year forecasts with multiple scenarios to support strategic decision-making Ensure the accuracy, completeness, and reliability of financial data used for forecasting and reporting Perform detailed financial analysis to support decision-making processes, including variance analysis and trend identification. Establishes or recommends to management objectives and policies for the University. Prepare and present detailed financial reports to senior management, highlighting key metrics and trends. Conducts in-depth variance analysis and prepares various management reports on financial performance and explains and communicates key variance drivers and insights to leadership. Provides key financial support and analysis on an ad-hoc basis to help drive and improve business performance. Compiles and analyzes data and prepares forecasted balance sheets and profit and loss statements. Formulates reports to summarize and forecast organization’s business activity and financial position in areas of income, expenses, and earnings based on past, present, and expected operations. Identifies potential financial risks and areas of opportunity. Monitor and confirm financial condition by conducting regular analysis of internal and external financial environment, including studying existing and new legislation and anticipating risks. Lead initiatives to continuously improve financial forecasting processes and methodologies, staying abreast of industry best practices and technological advancements.

Provide training and support to staff on financial processes, tools, and best practices.

Bachelor’s degree in relevant field

Experience:

Minimum 7 years of relevant experience

Knowledge, Skills and Attitudes:

  • Knowledge of generally accepted accounting procedures and principles (GAAP).

  • Experience with finance and accounting, including demonstrated knowledge of GAAP and financial reporting

  • Strong background with computer application systems and financial analytical skills.

  • Knowledge of business and management principles.

  • Ability to work in a complex environment with the skills to manage multiple projects and deadlines, establish priorities, set objectives, and achieve stated goals.

  • Ability to direct, manage, implement, and evaluate department operations.

  • Ability to establish department goals, and objectives that support the strategic plan.

  • Ability to effectively plan, delegate and/or supervise the work of others.

  • Ability to lead, motivate, develop, and train others.
