The Measurement Science Group at RTX Technology Research Center (RTRC) in East Hartford, CT has an open position for a research technician to work in our Materials Characterization laboratories. The position is part of a team integral to many of the research projects at RTRC and supports products from the various business units of RTX. You will be part of a team responsible for evaluating the physical and mechanical properties of materials and components throughout the product lifecycle. The work involves significant hands-on activity supporting the development of advanced materials and technologies through preparation of samples for characterization and testing.

What You Will Do:

Metallographic preparation

Precision specimen sectioning

Sample mounting and polishing techniques

Chemical handling and etching

Optical microscopy methods

Basic computer documentation/reporting

The preferred candidate will be capable of excelling as an individual contributor as well as in a team, with the desire to learn new skills and strong attention to detail. Experience in a hands-on laboratory or manufacturing environment is strongly preferred.

Qualifications You Must Have:

• AA/AS degree, Technical/Business School Certificate or Diploma, Skilled Trades Apprenticeship, or other post high school training (two years duration) or minimum experience of 6 years in a related field, e.g. materials characterization, manufacturing, quality/inspection, or precision machining

• Strong attention to detail and an ability to learn quickly and strive for continuous improvement

• Exceptional interpersonal skills with the ability to work effectively in a team environment or independently with limited direction

• U.S. citizenship is required, as only U.S. citizens are authorized to access the financial management system due to government contractual requirements

Qualifications we Prefer:

• Direct hands-on experience with metallography and specimen preparation is strongly preferred, with additional preference for experience with aerospace alloys/materials

• Experience with image and data documentation for incorporation into reports

• Self-starter with willingness to support strategic priorities and take ownership of assigned projects/initiatives.

The salary range for this role is 44,000 USD - 102,000 USD. The salary range provided is a good faith estimate representative of all experience levels. RTX considers several factors when extending an offer, including but not limited to, the role, function and associated responsibilities, a candidate’s work experience, location, education/training, and key skills.

Payments under these annual programs are not guaranteed and are dependent upon a variety of factors including, but not limited to, individual performance, business unit performance, and/or the company’s performance.

This role is a U.S.-based role. If the successful candidate resides in a U.S. territory, the appropriate pay structure and benefits will apply.
